Ali Kebriyaei Zadeh. Cultural Counselor of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Sri Lanka, met on Wednesday (February 18) with Mr. Sunil, President of the National Library of Sri Lanka, along with several senior managers of the institution.

During the meeting, Mr. Sunil and the library managers provided an overview of the establishment process of the National Library of Sri Lanka, as well as its archival and documentary holdings. They emphasized the significant role the National Library plays in shaping the country’s intellectual environment and promoting knowledge across Sri Lanka. Mr. Sunil also referred to the positive initiative undertaken to establish an “Iran Corner” within the library, describing it as an important cultural addition.

The discussion further addressed the Memorandum of Understanding previously signed between the National Library and Archives of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the National Library of Sri Lanka. The two sides exchanged views on the importance of implementing this agreement in practice.

Both parties agreed to enhance cooperation by utilizing the library’s facilities, including equipped halls and cultural spaces. Considering the Sri Lankan public’s interest in Iranian arts—such as music and cinema—the two sides discussed organizing Iranian film screenings, live performances of Iranian music, art and civilization exhibitions, and joint academic seminars on topics of mutual interest.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Cultural Counselor toured various sections of the National Library of Sri Lanka, including the “Iran Corner” established within the institution.
